Following on from the ‘Gods on Earth’ series, the artwork centres around Jason, Greek mythological hero. The leader of the Argonauts, whose quest for the Golden Fleece is featured in Greek literature. He was the son of Aeson, the rightful king of Iolcos.

A tribute to the 1963 Movie, Jason and The Argonauts, “Argonautica’ is a portrait of the protagonist, realised through a renewed contemporary lens.

The artwork carries on the strong tradition of Sunil's unique depictions of overcoming adversity and painted heroic portrayals of strength and fortitude.

Surface creation carries traces of construction and removal of paint, both acrylic and sprays. Scraped textures, overpainted marks. Time and process remain visible rather than hidden.
