Is a study dedicated to the classic hiphop track "Down by Law" by Fab 5 Freddy from the 1982 Wild Style Original Soundtrack. The song was produced by Chris Stein and Fab 5 Freddy, serving as a staple of early 1980s South Bronx block parties. It is widely recognized by its famous vocal hook: "Who's that girl? 'Cause I'm down by law."
The heavyweight energy of hiphop culture is fused with classic composition of traditional portraiture. The considered vibrancy of the colour palette corresponds to the energy of the rolling bassline and drum loop.
The artwork carries on the strong tradition of Sunil's unique depictions of overcoming adversity and painted heroic portrayals of strength and fortitude.
Surface creation carries traces of construction and removal of paint, both acrylic and sprays. Scraped textures, overpainted marks. Time and process remain visible rather than hidden.
