is one of the painted studies that formed the initial foundation of the "Live Well" series, A body of work consisting of film, audio and photography that were acquired for the permanent collection of The Wellcome Collection, London.
Manifested out of a sleep deprived cocktail of Greek and Norse gods studies, the characters of Alexandre Dumas, boxing training manuals, Nineties hiphop and male life studies, sprinkled with a modest layer of Russian vodka.
The artwork carries on the strong tradition of Sunil's unique depictions of overcoming adversity and painted heroic portrayals of strength and fortitude.
Use of suprematism styled composition, bring a heightened tenacity to the human study, strict diagonal tilts introducing energy and non-objective structure. These slants create a dynamic tension, relaying a viewer targeted motion and shift.
Surface creation carries traces of construction and removal of paint, both acrylic and sprays and Italian Luresa copper leaf. Scraped textures, overpainted marks. Time and process remain visible rather than hidden.
