At the age of Nineteen, Artist Sunil Pawar experienced a series of Grand Mal seizures. A diagnosis uncovered two differing strains of Epilepsy in each side of his brain. An extremely rare combination, two distinct epileptogenic foci, one idiopathic, the other rooted in degenerative Hippocampal sclerosis, affecting each hemisphere of the brain. Initial treatment led to Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. A severe febrile reaction. Pawar’s body of work relays his personal narratives expressing, not only seizures, but the struggles faced on a daily basis, senses of derealisations and cognitive uncertainty.
This personal and unique story is relayed through a network of multi media formats. Epilepsy remains markedly underrepresented in contemporary art, media, and public discourse, a silence the artist seeks to break.
